A Trip Plan to Bhangarh and Sariska – Day 1 from Delhi

So, in Nov.2011 we , 3 friends decided to take a tour of Alwar , Bhangarh and Sariska from Delhi.

We got together in Delhi on 13th. Booked our tickets to Alwar on Jaipur Shatabdi (for early morning on 14th)

In the evening , went to see the India Gate.

What is India Gate ?

India Gate, official name Delhi Memorial, originally called All-India War Memorial, monumental sandstone arch in New Delhi, dedicated to the troops of British India who died in wars fought between 1914 and 1919.

What is written on India Gate?

It reads “TO THE DEAD OF THE INDIAN ARMIES WHO FELL HONOURED IN FRANCE AND FLANDERS MESOPOTAMIA AND PERSIA EAST AFRICA GALLIPOLI AND ELSEWHERE IN THE NEAR AND THE FAR-EAST AND IN SACRED MEMORY ALSO OF THOSE WHOSE NAMES ARE RECORDED AND WHO FELL IN INDIA OR THE NORTH-WEST FRONTIER AND DURING THE THIRD AFGHAN WAR”

When was India Gate built?

1921

India Gate, New Delhi

Located in the center of New Delhi, it was built by Edwin Lutyens In 1921. It commemorates the members of the erstwhile British Indian Army. After India got its independence, India Gate became the site of Amar Jawan Jyoti – Indian Army’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Then at Night , we strolled around connaught place ( called CP by us )

Did some shopping.
Ate our dinner. 
Connaught Place is a frenetic business and financial hub, centered on a ring of colonnaded Georgian-style buildings with global chain stores, vintage cinemas, bars and Indian restaurants. Stalls at Janpath Market sell saris, embroidered bags and trinkets. The peaceful Sikh temple Gurdwara Bangla Sahib is known for its reflecting pool, and Jantar Mantar is a 1700s observatory with huge astronomical instruments.
Why Connaught Place is famous?

The area is the hub of business and cultural activities and is the prime Central Business District (CBD) of the city. Connaught Place is famous for its Georgian-style architecture. The grand scale and architectural character of the area make it stand out amongst various buildings

Is Connaught Place Safe?
Connaught Place is absolutely safe to go out for dinner at night. Of course I have never been in the area beyond 11.30 (that’s when most restuarants begin to wrap up) except festival days, and only used the metro/private car to get back home.
How do you spend a day in Connaught Place?
You can spend an entire day roving around the Inner Circle and Outer Circle of Connaught Place without blinking an eyelid.
